Mikhail Prokhorov’s Onexim Group may buy a stake in Dozhd television, an independent Russian channel that broadcasts via the Internet and satellite networks, Onexim spokesman Andrei Belyak said.
Dozhd is in talks with Onexim to raise investment for technical and content development, editor-in-chief Mikhail Zygar said by phone Monday, confirming a post by chief executive Natalya Sindeyeva on her Internet page last week. The channel is interested in asset swaps, he said.
“Our audience is people who stopped watching federal television channels” owned by the state or businessmen loyal to the Kremlin, Zygar said. Dozhd can technically reach as many as 30 million people, he said.
Prokhorov has a fortune valued at $18 billion by Forbes magazine. He also owns Snob magazine, which has failed to make a profit.
