A senior Tatarstan official ran over a 14-year-old girl, leaving her in a coma, while driving a government-owned Audi sedan on Aug. 22, Komsomolskaya Pravda reported Wednesday.
The official, Pavel Chernov, who serves as the republic’s deputy transportation minister, has apologized to the parents of the girl, Alina Iskakova, who spent a week in a coma, but has since recovered, the report said. An investigation is ongoing, but no case has been opened against Chernov.
Local traffic police said the girl was crossing the road on her bicycle without checking for approaching cars.
