A Voronezh region police officer who survived a stabbing attack that left two fellow officers dead backtracked on an earlier statement that the policemen had provoked the fight, Interfax reported.
Lifenews.ru reported Tuesday that the officer, Alexei Seleznyov, said the three policemen were attacked after they accidentally rammed a horse-drawn cart with their own car, which flipped over after the collision.
But later he reverted to the initial official explanation of the incident, saying the officers were attacked after trying to check documents of the six people in the cart while investigating a reported theft, Interfax said. An unidentified suspect has been detained in the stabbing and faces life in prison if charged and convicted of murder.
