Riot Police Kill 3 Suspects Riot police on Saturday killed three suspected rebels in Chechnya, police officials said. Officers killed the alleged militants early Saturday in Chechnya's southern district of Urus-Martan after they had refused to surrender, a spokesman for Chechnya's Interior Ministry said. Police also found a large arms cache in the suspects' home, and investigators were working to determine the alleged militants' identities. (AP) Journalist Gets 6 Years TASHKENT, Uzbekistan -- An Uzbek court has sentenced a journalist to six years in jail for extortion, human rights groups said Friday. Ulugbek Khaidarov, 43, has written critical articles on the Internet and has previously worked with the Institute for War and Peace Reporting. He has also done human rights work in the town of Dzhizak, where the trial took place. The Committee to Protect Journalists, or CPJ, said it was outraged by the sentence.
