Time appears to have stopped sometime in the 1970s at the Voice of Russia studios. The former Radio Moscow has not seen any new equipment for the last 20 years. The journalists, most in their 50s or 60s, use electric typewriters to tap out their commentaries. In his tiny 10th-floor office, political commentator Valentin Zorin, once one of the best-known Soviet journalists, is surrounded by a Cold War gallery: photos of him with all the U.S. presidents from Lyndon Johnson to George Bush, as well as with Leonid Brezhnev, Andrei Gromyko and Henry Kissinger. The place may feel like a museum of the Soviet imperial era, but Zorin and his colleagues say they still have an important mission in the new Russia. ""You will not find Russia on American TV and radio,"" said Zorin, who has broadcast a regular ""View From Moscow"" column for over two decades.
