Car Thieves Beware: LO/JACK Is on the Case

Every day in Moscow, between 30 and 70 car owners walk into their courtyard or return from the shops to find their pride and joy vanished -- stolen. But, with the introduction of the U.S. made LO/JACK system, city officials say that for a mere $700, plus $50 per year, your car can now be safe at last. ""We, the city government, throw down the gauntlet to Moscow's car thieves,"" declared the city's deputy premier, Iosif Ordzhonikidze, as he announced the official adoption of the LO/JACK system at a recent press conference. Working on a track-and-detect principal, LO/JACK was chosen by the Internal Affairs Ministry over others because, officials say, it enjoys a 95 percent success rate in the 14 countries where it is already used. The system won't prevent the theft of your car, city officials told reporters, but it virtually assures recovery if the vehicle is stolen.
