Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has urged Germany not to “sweep under the rug” an incident involving a 13-year old girl in Berlin who was reportedly missing for 30 hours, the TASS news agency reported Tuesday.
?€?We hope that there will be no more incidents like this one,?€? Lavrov was quoted by the Interfax news agency as saying.
Lavrov added that Moscow was now working with the family's lawyer and that he said that it is clear that the girl could not voluntarily disappear for 30 hours, Interfax reported.
Earlier this month, the family in question claimed that their daughter of Russian descent had been kidnapped, held for 30 hours and raped by three migrants in Berlin, Russian media reported at the time.
Berlin police did not find any evidence of kidnap or rape and the incident is being investigated by prosecutors.
The incident caused outrage in Germany's Russian community and resulted in a demonstration near the office of German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
The rally was attended by about 700 Russians living in Germany.
