NATO Revives the NATO-Russia Council

Wikicommons

After a long break, the NATO-Russia Council will hold a meeting in Brussels in the next two weeks, the NATO press office reported Friday.

?€?We will discuss military activities, with particular focus on transparency and risk reduction,?€? a press release by NATO said.

Other topics for discussion will be the Ukrainian crisis, the security situation in Afghanistan and regional terrorist threats.

The council meeting will be held at the level of ambassadors. NATO refers to it as the ?€?continuation of political dialogue,?€? but stresses that for relations to be rebuilt, Russia must show respect for international laws, the press-release says.

The Alliance suspended all practical cooperation with Russian in 2014 after Moscow's annexation of Crimea.
