Head of Moscow's Investigative Committee Alexander
Drymanov has resigned from his post just hours after the Russia's
Federal Security Services (FSB) raided his department, the Legal
Report news website reported.
FSB officers arrested Drymanov's deputy head Denis Nikandrov, the committee's head of security Mikhail Maksimenko, and his deputy Alexandra Lamonova while raiding the offices Tuesday.
All three employees are suspected of taking large bribes in connection with a case against notorious Russian thief-in-law Shakro Molodoy, who was arrested earlier this month. Nikandrov's bribe is suspected of being worth up to $1 million.
Maksimenko's arrest is also connected to instructions he allegedly gave investigators not to prolong the arrest of Andrei Kochuylova, Shakro's right-hand man.
Investigative Committee spokesperson Vladimir Markin said following the arrests that he was ashamed of the situation and saddened by its effects on the department.
“It is a shame, and I am sad for what happened to our so-called colleagues. This incident will of course cast a shadow over all we do, but work to improve ourselves will continue,” Markin said, Interfax reported.
