Ticket prices for flights from Russia to international destinations rose by 11 percent on Wednesday due to the sharp ruble devaluation, Interfax news agency reported.
From Aug. 26, fares will be calculated in accordance with ruble's 81.5 exchange rate against the euro, which is 11 percent higher than the exchange rate that was used from Aug. 19 to Aug. 26. This means that fares will go up by 11 percent, Dmitry Gorin, head of the committee for transport at the Association of Tour Operators of Russia, told Interfax Tuesday.
The price of airline tickets are revised every Tuesday by The International Air Transport Association on the basis of the current exchange rate.
The demand for international air travel in Russia has been hit hard by the drop in the ruble's value.
In the first half of the year, the number of passengers flying with Russian airlines to international destinations fell by 15.2 percent compared to the same period last year, according to Russia's Federal Transportation Agency.
