Yelena Mizulina, the ultraconservative lawmaker from the Just Russia party, has been appointed senator from the Siberian region of Omsk — a job that will take her from the State Duma to the upper house of parliament, the Federation Council.
Omsk regional Governor Viktor Nazarov signed a decree Wednesday to appoint Mizulina as one of his region's senators, according to a document published on the government's legal information website.
Mizulina ran as a senatorial candidate on Nazarov's ticket during Omsk's Sept. 13 election. She said in July she would serve as senator if Nazarov, an acting governor at that time, won the election.
Each of Russia's regions has two representatives in the Federation Council.
