Three women have been detained on suspicion of planning a terror act in the Rostov region in southern Russia, the Interfax news agency reported Wednesday.

A criminal case has been opened, an unidentified source in regional law enforcement structures told the agency.

It is unclear exactly when the women were detained.

In an earlier report on Jan. 17, a number of terror suspects were detained in Rostov-on-Don, according to the Bloknot news portal.

One man and three women between the ages of 20 and 25 were detained in Rostov, the news portal said.

800 grams of explosive material was discovered at their residence. They were reportedly planning an explosion at a local mall, Bloknot reported.
