A Russian man in his 20s was stabbed multiple times while visiting the Hollywood Walk of Fame with his family, U.S. media reported.
The Russian tourist was shopping with his family in the busy area around the TCL Chinese Theater — the site of the Oscars red carpet — when he was stabbed multiple times to the neck by an apparently homeless man, Los Angeles news sites reported Wednesday. The victim had surgery immediately after the attack and was set to recover.
The victim was protecting his wife and two daughters before two off-duty New York police detectives subdued and restrained the attacker until the Los Angeles police arrived at the crime scene, a witness said, the local CBS news agency reported.
The victim's identify has not been released.
Donald Offerman, 54, is in police custody on suspicion of stabbing the man in the neck with a kitchen knife. The attack was unprovoked, The Associated Press reported investigators as saying.
