Russian Shopping Mall Shooter Faces 7 Years in Prison

Maxim Stulov / Vedomosti

Police in the Urdmurtia republic have opened a criminal case after a man opened fire in a shopping mall in the regional capital of Izhevsk.

The 43-year-old suspect fired a handgun at a shopping center on one of the city's main streets after an argument with his wife, the regional branch of the Interior Ministry said Saturday in an online statement.

The man, who was not identified in the police statement, also fired several times at a car that was parked outside on the street. No one was reported to have been injured in the attack.

He has since been charged with hooliganism and faces up to seven years in prison if convicted, the police statement added.
