Russian Government Bans Charter Flights to Turkey

Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev has ordered the Transport Ministry to ban all charter flights to Turkey effective from Dec. 1, the Prime economic news agency reported Tuesday, citing government spokespeople.

The only charter flights to remain in operation are those that will return Russian tourists currently in Turkey home, the report said.

The government also wants security tightened on remaining transportation between the two countries, Prime reported.

A Russian Su-24 fighter-bomber was downed by an air-to-air missile from a Turkish F-16 interceptor near the Turkish-Syrian border on Nov. 24. Turkey said the jet had violated its airspace while Russia insisted that the plane was on the Syrian territory.
