Putin Says 'Sevastopol Mommies' Will Get Motherhood Subsidies

Responding to questions from a cheering crowd in Sevastopol, President Vladimir Putin said that Crimean mothers will receive the same subsidies for having multiple children that other Russian women are paid.

Putin answered a question from “Sevastopol mommies” relayed by a host of the president's annual call-in show by saying that Crimean residents would receive the same social benefits as other Russian citizens. He also said Russia would subsidize the Crimean budget to make sure that residents did not lose benefits they were accustomed to receiving when the region was part of Ukraine.

Since 2007, Russia has offered subsidies known as “maternity capital” to families for having multiple children in an effort to combat a demographic crisis
