Oil Executive Shot

MOSCOW ) -- The head of one of Russia's top oil companies was shot in the stomach in an apparent assassination attempt and was hospitalized in serious condition, the Interfax news agency reported Tuesday.


Yury Vershinin, president of the Tyumen Oil Company since its inception, was shot on the stairs leading to his apartment as he returned home Monday night in Tyumen, a city in southwestern Siberia, the report said.


He was rushed to an intensive care unit, and doctors said his wounds did not appear to be life-threatening.
