No domestically produced film has made it into the top 10 movies at the Russian box office for the first nine months of the year, the movie industry website kinodata.pro reported Tuesday.
Russia's only homegrown close contender, the animated film "Tri Bogatyrya: Khod Konyom" ("Three Heroes: Gambit"), which had box office revenues of 962.7 million rubles ($15 million), has been overtaken by Ridley Scott's sci-fi drama "The Martian."
As of Tuesday morning, the box office revenues of "The Martian," which is still on at movie theaters, stood at 1.06 billion rubles ($16.5 million), according to kinodata.pro.
This is the first time since 2003 that no Russian film has made it into the country's list of the 10 most profitable films, the report said.
A total of 126 Russian films will be released this year, which is 50 percent more than last year, kinodata.pro said.
