BOSTON -- The Bruins ruined Montreal's last regular-season visit to Boston Garden by scoring three goals in less than two minutes of the second period and beating the Canadiens 6-0.
Montreal has played 312 regular-season road games against the Bruins, more than any other team. Boston moves next season into the new FleetCenter, being built next to the Garden.
The Canadiens were coming off an 8-5 win Wednesday night over Pittsburgh, but Bruins rookie goaltender Blaine Lacher turned aside 29 shots in posting his third shutout as they ended a season-long three-game slide.
Sabres 6, Islanders 3. At Buffalo, Pat LaFontaine, playing his first game in 16 months, scored one goal and set up another to lead the Buffalo Sabres to a 6-3 victory over the New York Islanders.
LaFontaine's goal came on a three-on-one break in the first period.
Nordiques 3, Penguins 2. At Quebec City, Owen Nolan's second power-play goal of the game snapped a tie at 2:38 of the third period as the Quebec Nordiques beat Pittsburgh 3-2 Thursday night to move ahead of the Penguins in the NHL's overall standings.
Red Wings 5, Stars 4. At Detroit, Vladimir Konstantinov and Bob Rouse scored third-period goals to give the Detroit Red Wings a 5-4 victory over the Dallas Stars.
Konstantinov entered the game with one goal and Rouse had none.
Flyers 3, Senators 1. At Ottawa, John LeClair's goal with just over two minutes to play lifted the Philadelphia Flyers to a 3-1 victory over the Ottawa Senators and into first place in the Atlantic Division.
Panthers 5, Capitals 1. At Miami, Jesse Belanger scored two goals as the Florida Panthers beat the Washington Capitals 5-1 and handed their sensational rookie goaltender Jim Carey his first professional loss after a 6-0-1 start.
Since being called up from Portland in the American League March 1, Carey has been sensational in the nets, compiling a league-leading 1.41 goals-against average going into the game.
Blackhawks 9, Canucks 2. At Chicago, Bernie Nicholls victimized Vancouver again, scoring twice in the second period. He scored four goals in Chicago's 9-4 win over Vancouver last month.
