The Federal Security Service (FSB) has detained recruiters for the Islamic State in Russia's southern Volgograd region, the Interfax news agency reported Friday.

One of the detainees was planning a terrorist attack in the region, according to an FSB spokesperson, Interfax reported.

The FSB and police officers in the town of Pallasovka said the so-called "Pallasovka Jamaat" was involved in recruiting people from the region to join the Islamic State in Syria.

Ammunition, explosives and other chemical compounds were seized from the detainees' residence, as well as religious and extremist texts, Interfax reported.

The Islamic State is a terrorist group banned in Russia.
