Foreign Ministry Denies Plans for Military Base in Argentina

The Foreign Ministry has dismissed reports of Russian plans to build a military base in Argentina as a "provocative lie."

"We were surprised to see reports circulating on the Internet alleging that Russia is planning to open a military base in Argentina," spokesman Alexander Lukashevich said in a statement published on the ministry's website on Wednesday.

"This provocative lie would not be worth our comments if not for the accompanying speculation on how Russia is going to develop relations with Argentina in the future," the statement said.
