Brother of Russian Opposition Leader Navalny to Have Closed Parole Hearing

Oleg Navalny – the brother of anti-corruption crusader Alexei Navalny – is to face a parole hearing behind closed doors on June 27.

The session will take place in the penal colony where Oleg is currently serving his three-and-a-half-year sentence, with only his lawyer and Oleg himself allowed to attend, Alexei wrote on his blog Wednesday.

“Not even Oleg's wife can attend. [It is going to be a] closed, secret [hearing],” Navalny wrote.

Oleg Navalny and his brother were found guilty of fraud and laundering funds from French cosmetics firm Yves Rocher on Dec. 30, 2014. Alexei Navalny a received three-year suspended sentence.

Oleg's lawyer Kirill Polozov said that it was unlikely that parole would be granted due to his client’s unpaid penalties and an unfavorable report from the prison colony administration.
