Top Moscow region prosecutor and two of his deputies, all implicated in an illegal gambling ring scandal, were sacked Thursday, Interfax reported, citing the Prosecutor General's Office.
Alexander Mokhov and his subordinates were fired for "violating a prosecutor's oath," their agency reported, without elaborating. Mokhov may be replaced by the head of the Prosecutor General's Office's anti-corruption department, Alexander Anikin, the report said.
Several top Moscow region prosecutors were accused in February by the Investigative Committee of protecting a gambling ring in exchange for perks. The ongoing conflict is widely seen as a turf war between the committee and the prosecutor agency.
