American Causes Stir on RT

U.S. Senate candidate Rand Paul has stirred up controversy by telling Russia Today television that he opposes citizenship for children born in the United States to parents who are illegal immigrants.

“We’re the only country I know that allows people to come in illegally, have a baby, and then that baby becomes a citizen,” Paul said in the interview done with Russia Today shortly after his Kentucky primary victory over Republican establishment candidate Trey Grayson. “And I think that should stop also.”

Russia Today was established in 2005 to improve Russia’s image in the West but has aired reports about controversial issues in recent months in an apparent attempt to boost its ratings. The channel says it is offering news from a Russian perspective.
