Seven vehicles belonging to Moscow City Hall's Center for Traffic Regulation caught fire on Wednesday night in the center's south Moscow parking lot, the TASS news agency reported Thursday, citing police spokesman Andrei Galiakberov. No one was injured in the fire.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the cars caught fire when an open flame was brought into the area by unidentified individuals, and a canister containing flammable liquid residue was found at the scene, Galiakberov said.
Police officers on Thursday interrogated the parking lot guards and examined security camera footage. The question of opening a criminal case was under consideration, the report said.
The Center for Traffic Regulation was created by City Hall in 1999. Because it is responsible for organizing and regulating traffic in Moscow, Muscovites often consider its vehicles responsible for recording parking violations and assigning fines.
