Russia's Lake Baikal ?€” Largest Lake in the World

Russia's Lake Baikal is the largest freshwater lake in the world. It lies between the Irkutsk region and the Buryat republic in southeast Siberia.



The lake, which is home to 1,340 species of animal and 570 species of plant, was declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1996.
