Viktor Khristenko

Viktor Khristenko (Виктор Борисович Христенко) was born on Aug. 28, 1957, in Chelyabinsk.

Education: Economics and construction management, Chelyabinsk Technical University, 1979. Academy of National Economy, 1995. Ph.D., economics.

1990: Elected to the Chelyabinsk City Council of People’s Deputies

1991-1996: Deputy Governor of Chelyabinsk region

1997: Appointed as plenipotentiary presidential representative to Chelyabinsk region

1997-1998: Deputy finance minister. Managed financial ties to the regional governments.

1998: Deputy prime minister

1998-1999: First deputy finance minister. Khristenko was demoted to this position when then-President Boris Yeltsin fired the government following the August 1998 financial crisis.

May 1999: Appointed first deputy prime minister after Yeltsin dismissed Prime Minister Yevgeny Primakov's Cabinet

January 2000: Appointed deputy prime minister

February-March 5, 2004: Acting prime minister

March 9, 2004: Appointed minister of industry and energy

Khristenko, like former Prime Minister Mikhail Kasyanov, served for a while as the country's envoy to the International Monetary Fund

Viktor Khristenko is married to Health and Social Development Minister Tatyana Golikova and has three children.
