Russian Spy-Style Briefcase Designed to Protect Top Officials

A state-owned Russian technology company has launched a new ?€?personal safety briefcase?€? designed to protect high-ranking officials, the RBC news website reported Friday.

The small attaché case has integrated equipment to protect its carrier against wiretapping or terrorist threats, according to the press release published Friday by the manufacturers at United Instrument Manufacturing Corporation (OPK). The case was designed to be nondescript and easily transportable.

Gadgets hidden within the case include a comprehensive signal jammer for mobile phones, bugs and wiretaps. The briefcase can also block detonation signals for radio-controlled explosives, protecting the carrier from terrorist attacks in crowded places, the manufactures say.

The price tag is currently set at 10 million rubles ($151,000).

Founded in 2014, OPK is owned by state technology and defense conglomerate Rostec. The firm has been working on a range of military and civilian defense drones.
