Moscow's newest mosque — one of the biggest in Russia — will put on display a hair believed to have belonged to the prophet Muhammad, the Muslim Spiritual Board of Russia said in an online statement.
The relic is a gift from Ramzan Kadyrov, the leader of Russia's Chechen republic, in honor of the mosque's opening last month, the statement said.
The hair was expected to draw thousands of visitors upon its arrival at the mosque during Tuesday's evening prayers and will be displayed publicly in a glass case on religious holidays, TASS news agency reported Tuesday.
In total there are three such relics in all of Russia. The other two holy hairs are kept in the cities of Tver and Dagestan's Makhachkala, TASS said.
The relic was previously on display in January at the Crocus City Hall exhibition center, the Komsomolskaya Pravda newspaper reported at the time. There it attracted around 7,000 visitors, TASS reported.
