As you can deduce from the menu, this is a meat restaurant. The Moscow Beef Bar is a joint project of Kirill Gusev's Restaurant Syndicate and the international Beef Bar group that has branches in Luxemburg, Nice and Monaco. The kitchen of the capital's branch is run by Italian Carlo Greku who not only fries meat to perfection but can also brilliantly cook other European dishes. The summer terrrace has a great view of the Moscow river.

Bocconcino

   
Bocconcino is a popular and bright establishment in the best Italian tradition. Its interior is luxurious and simple at the same time. The absence of sharp corners, the carved ceiling and the original and comfortable furniture makes the place quiet and cosy. The selling point is the open kitchen with a real Neopolitan cooker. The main player on the menu is pizza; the pizza here is heavenly! It is made by a hereditary pizza maker brought from Italy. This splendid 18th century manor was once the out-of-town residence of Count Orlov. This restored architectural monument is surrounded by a picturesque park with a fountain, alleys and gazebos. Kruazh

    
This 3-storey house on the corner of Prechistenka Street and Gogolevsky Bulvar was built as long ago as 1790 although the restaurant was opened here fairly recently. The interior is singuarly expensive and severe but not entirely original. There is a fantastic view from two of the halls of Christ the Saviour cathedral. The menu is more interesting with the American chef’s signature take on European and Russian cooking. For example, he offers beef medallions with fried mushrooms and sauce made from kvass or lungfish fillet with lentils, apple syrup and creme fraiche with horseradish.

Lastochka Teplokhod

    
Restaurant on a 2-decked riverboat, just like those that sailed on Russia’s rivers at the start of the 20th century. The halls and cabinets have woven furniture, sea paraphernalia and ships’ teak on the floor. The proprieters have succeeded in creating an aristocratic yet relaxing atmosphere. An Italian chef conjures away in the kitchen, offering European food with an Italian accent. Lastochka is tied up at a picturesque wharf and only comes out for cruises on the Moscow river when it is hired for special events.

Patriarch’s Ponds is one of Moscow’s cult places. The restaurant Pavilion caused a sensation when it opened a few years ago in a historical 19th century building because so many people wanted to dine with such an exclusive view of the pond. There is huge demand for the restaurant now too: beautiful design, aristocratic interior, mixed Russian-European-Asian cooking. Only you have to pay a fair bit for all these pleasures.

River Palace

    
This 2-decked river boat with a restaurant on board was specially built for gastronomic river cruises in 2008. It is by far the most luxurious boat on the river! The floor of the main hall is made of beige marble and the ceiling is hung with 12 gilded light fittings. The menu is by a chef who worked with Alan Ducasse. He treats guests to sardine carpaccio, bouillion with sea urchins, and American ‘Russet’ shark with basil. The boat is tied up at the wharf at Ploshchad Evropy and leaves for trips on the Moscow River every even-numbered hour.

Rytsarsky Club

   
The only restaurant on the viewing platform on Vorobyovy Gory. Situated under the big ski-jump, it looks out on arresting views of Moscow. There are several halls: mechants’ formal hall, a hall like in a knight’s castle, a winter garden and summer veranda. The food is average quality and overpriced but remembers, you pay for the view and the atmosphere.

Volga-Volga

   
This restaurant has been conducting its story since 1939, situated in a building of the Northern river port in a park on the banks of the river Moscow. The solemn interior is an example of Stalinist empire style. In warm weather the rotonda is open, grown over with vines, there is a fountain in the centre and tables are situated around it. They serve dishes from European and Russian cuisine. There are aquariums with sturgeons swimming that can be caught and cooked for you. It is worth a visit to feel the unique ‘Soviet aristocratic’ atmosphere.
