Benihana

One of only a few Moscow teppanyaki restaurants. Here they expound the notion of 'food as entertainment', thought up by the chain's founder Hiroaki Aoki. Food on the teppans is cooked artistically and with flair and works out excellently! They make a good show of preparing drinks too.

Bocconcino

Bocconcino is a popular and bright establishment in the best Italian tradition. Its interior is luxurious and simple at the same time. The absence of sharp corners, the carved ceiling and the original and comfortable furniture makes the place quiet and cosy. The selling point is the open kitchen with a real Neopolitan cooker. The main player on the menu is pizza; the pizza here is heavenly! It is made by a hereditary pizza maker brought from Italy. There are more than 20 types on offer, including the sumptuous sweet Dolce pizza with mascarpone, chocolate and a generous handful of sweet forest berries.

Cafe Pushkin

Flagship restaurant of the famous Andrei Dellos and one of Moscow's cult restaurants, where you can feel the atmosphere of imperial Russia of the 19th century and try legendary dishes. Restaurant-palace of high-class Italian cooking that took 2 years to open. Inside are fountains, walls painted with frescoes, marble columns and statues. Dishes by Michel Brogoni are astounding! Multi-branch chain of cafes with a democratic atmosphere. Food is decent; the menu has something for any time or desire - to quickly satisfy hunger, for dinner with friends, or lunch with a business partner. The flagship branch on Tverskaya has two options for sitting: Project which is more expensive and Etazh which is democratic. Sometimes the service in insuffcient. There is a delivery service.

Anatoly Komm has opened a more democratic restaurant, Green.it with provincial cooking from Lombardy and Piemont, on the site of the pretentious Green Grill Palace. The interior is left over from its predecessor, meaning that luxury and beauty will accompany your meal. The food and quality are good but prices are not quite as democratic as we might have wanted.

Kolkovna

The Czech chain Kolkovka has opened a branch in Moscow. The restaurant in the very centre of town has only two sorts of beer: Pilsner Urquell and Velkopopovicky Kozel, and classic Czech dishes to go with it such as pork knee in beer, beef scratchings and so on. Prices are not high, despite the location and excellent interior.

La Maree

Fish-lovers will undoubtedly love and come to value the fish boutique ‘La Maree’ on the corner of Strasnoi Bulvar and Petrovka. Unbelievably sentimental interior styled as a flat that touches the depths of your soul. Establishment with complex historic allusions. At the start of the 20th century there was the cabaret Maksim here and a mulatto man named Tomas worked there as what would today be described as a promoter. The restaurant is named in his honour. Night Flight

Nobu

The appearance of the world-famous brand Nobu in Moscow caused a great noise. The restaurant was personally opened by Nobuyuki Matsukhisa and Robert de Niro. Now the chain’s high standards are continued in Moscow by chef Lloyd Roberts from New York’s Nobu Fifty Seven. The refined interior and Japanese-Peruvian menu attracts a lot of attention from gourmands. There is no consensus of opinion: some people are in ecstasy and some expected more from Nobu. The name declares the main attraction of this restaurant: here they serve truffles. A restaurant palace and no less! Construction took over 6 years. Every detail was planned and there are works of art everywhere: comparisons to the Hermitage would not be out of place. Varvary

Varvary’s creator, Anatoly Komm, calls his establishment a gastronomic theatre. From 19.30 to 21.00 there are gastronomic plays involving the transformation of 16 dishes for which you have to register in advance. This season, tasting sessions from the maestro are on the theme ‘Fire and Ice’. There will be raspberry and dandelion sorbet with basturma chips in candy floss, chicken liver sweets, sweet veal with peas and other unprecedented weird and wonderful things. Cost for one person is 7500 rubles. Many talk about this restaurant yet few understand it. We advise you to form your own opinion. If you don’t want to risk trying the molecular cuisine then come for the traditional Italian menu that operates for all guests from midday to midnight.

This Petersburg chain of democratic sushi-bars appeared in Moscow not long ago, but has already opened 20 branches.
