Meat and fish are cooked over alder woodchips and the in-house cake and sweets workshop produces delightful Russian and French desserts. Arka

    
Unpretentious and not too expensive nightclub with a surprising location - right in the Kitai-Gorod wall, an architectural monument from the 16th century. Programs and discos go on in the halls under low arched ceilings. Cuisine is very decent European and Japanese. Only open from Thursday to Saturday.

ArteFAQ

   
Bohemian club-restaurant. There are a few finds in the interior: amusing toilets and a glass floor on the second floor. The menu is decent with several creative dishes and sometimes un-bohemian prices. The restaurant is comfy enough for a full dinner while the two-floored bar area is better for cocktails and ligt bites. The cellar hosts literary readings, live concerts and other cultural events. It has Wi-Fi.

Blackberry cafe

    

Modern Provence style with urban elements is how you might describe the interior. Neither is the menu simple, a mix of European and Asian cooking with both shashliks and Tom Yam soup. DJs and dancing in the evenings; theatrical performances during brunch for young guests. Prices are not as high as you might expect.

Bonnie and Clyde

    
This place looks like an expensive and pretentious restaurant, and in fact it is an expensive and pretentious club/bar. Its location in the Central Telegraph office on Tverskaya is unique in the heart of town. The interior is decorated with Swarovsky crystals, velvet sofas and large panoramic windows. People come here for elegant drinks (the bar list has more than 300 entries), have dinner with taste (the menu has 'female' dishes from Bonnie and 'male' dishes from Clyde), and if you are in the mood, to dance.

Ambitious new restaurant-club. The place has 4 floors and each is elaborately designed; there is also a summer veranda. The Italian chef, possessor of 2 Michelin stars, was invited specially. His menu is very broad: from olivier and caesar salads to quesadilla and sushi. Luch is a high-ceilinged place, full of air, with a grandiose bar (30m), huge wine cabinets, a stylish interiors with noble chocolate colours, all combining to make a beautiful sight. One of the oldest nightclubs and one of the most ‘expat’ places in town. Phenomenal Scandinavian and European dishes. The meat dishes including steak and venison are worthy of the praise they receive, as is the seafood. The club itself, and the prices, are not for the faint hearted.

Pivo-vodi

   
The interior of this establishment was left by its predecessor, Gradus Bar. The menu is solid and beer-heavy but there are gems such as home-made goat sausages. The beer range is not massive but is very exclusive: as well as the usual traditional beers there are some that are hard to get hold of in the capital such as Kulmbacher pils, Schneider Weisse and Litovel Premium pils.

Real Maccoy

   
One of the great-ancestors of the bar movement in Moscow. Here you can drink, dance in the evening and take a hair of the dog in the morning. The cuisine is decent tex-mex and European. Very popular among expats. If you want to chat as well as dance, order a table in the further hall where it isn’t quite as loud. .

Sestry Grim

   
It is not easy to find this establishment: you have to go under the arch and round the pavilion of club Gogol, but it is worth the try. You find yourself in a hospitable ‘apartment’ where the interior is unbelievably sweet and sentimental. The food is both domestic and fantastic. At weekends there is dancing.

Establishment with brightly-coloured interior, located on the street with the same name, a restaurant during the day and a club at night. Just like solyanka soup the menu combines various cuisines and culinary traditions. Sunday to Wednesday is relatively quiet but Thursday to Saturday has queues to get in and strict face control.

Staraya Gavana

     
Cuban cuisine and staggering music and dancing – these professionals really know their stuff. If you want to learn to dance, come to the free masterclasses on Thursdays. The menu has a huge choice of expensive Cuban soups, starters and seafood dishes. There is also a long cocktail list and hand-rolled Cuban cigars at your service. A party atmosphere always reigns.

Tema

   
The main theme of Tema is its drinks and dances. The huge variety of cocktails in various guises and interpretations won’t let you get bored: try just a few and your legs carry you to the dance floor of their own accord. Tinkoff

    

Large 2-storey restaurant with industrial design. A lift goes between the two floors. Their own microbrewery sits behind a glass barrier, you can observe the process. There is a new collection of house beers every season. The huge menu has something for every occasion and there is even a sushi bar with a menu compiled by a chef from Japan. At weekends there are concerts, including world-famous groups.

Wall Street Bar

    
This bar was opened for a serious clientele: businessmen and stockbrokers who value comfort, good drinks and good music. The interior is rather severe and substantial and the lower floor has cigar and karaoke rooms. The bar list has a good selection of cocktails but the menu is not the most original: European-Japanese mix, there is even pizza. DJs on Friday and Saturday.

Yama

   
The small beer restaurant in the centre continuing the tradition of that same Yama that was situated on Stoleshnikov pereulok. The menu has traditional beer classics and a decent choice of beer. At weekends there is live music wih dancing.

Zhiguli

    
The beer restaurant Zhiguli has been well-known to the Moscow public since the 60s. The renovated premises opened in 2002. These days Zhiguli is a fast food cafe on the ground floor and a rather expensive restaurant on the second. The interior is stylish and nostalgic. The main attraction is of course the freshly brewed house beer, with a range of classic ‘beer’ dishes to go with it. Zhiguli has lively parties with dancing at the weekends.
