At least 5,000 people took part in September's peace-themed marathon, which set its course from the foot of St. Basil's on Red Square. Held on a Sunday, this was the 30th Moscow International Marathon for Peace. The first, Voice of Russia reported, was held during the 1980 Olympic Games, when the Olympics came to the Russian capital at the height of the Cold War.

Vladimir Filonov, a staff photographer with The Moscow Times, snapped photos of young, old, sneakered and wheeled participants, which you can check out in our photo gallery.
