Presidential economic aide and Russian Chess Federation chairman Arkady Dvorkovich squared off against a chess robot early in June. In matches meant to showcase Russia's modernization push, both the robot and Dvorkovich had a bumpy evening. The publicity match come amid controversy over nominations for the next head of FIDE, the chess world governing body, as Dvorkovich and the Russian Chess Federation feuded over the nomination of an eccentric Kalmyk politician.
