Russia Improves Position in International Corruption Rating

Russia was ranked 119th — together with Azerbaijan, Guyana and Sierra Leone — in Transparency International's 2015 Corruption Perceptions Index, up 17 points from its 2014 position. The rating was published on Transparency International's website.

In the 2014 index, Russia was ranked 136th, just behind Nigeria. Russia was 127th in 2013 and 133rd in 2012.

The Transparency International Corruption Perceptions Index has been released every year since 1995. It evaluates the level of corruption in 168 countries, assigning points from 0 to 100 to each country.

The country with the lowest amount of corruption gets 100 points, and the country with the highest level gets 0 points.

This year's index was topped by Denmark, Finland, Sweden, New Zealand and Netherlands, while Somalia and North Korea were at the bottom.
