Drunk Russian-Speaking Man Detained After Dubai-Moscow Flight

A drunk Russian-speaking man was detained by police at Moscow's Domodedovo Airport after a complaint by the crew of an Emirates flight from Dubai, state news agency RIA Novosti reported Sunday.

The man, whose name has not been disclosed, imbibed several alcoholic drinks with his friends on the flight and became rowdy and did not follow the instructions of airline personnel, the report said.

Last year Russian flagship airline Aeroflot recorded 2,500 incidents of passengers violating rules of behavior aboard flights, the report said.

Last year a Moscow court ordered a Russian man to pay nearly a million rubles ($18,000) for drunkenly disrupting an Aeroflot flight in which he got into a fight with his wife and then with other passengers who tried to calm him down. The plane had to make an emergency landing.

Russian airlines have seen a spate of similar incidents in recent years. In June last year, a United Russia State Duma deputy faced an investigation over allegations he had threatened flight attendants and insulted other passengers while in an inebriated state.

In February last year, a Russian businessman was sentenced to three and a half years in jail and fined 400,000 rubles for attempting to hijack a plane while drunk. He had punched a male flight attendant and tried to enter the cockpit on a flight from Moscow to Egypt.
