Oil from a subsidiary of top Russian oil firm Rosneft is leaking into a river on the island of Sakhalin, the regional emergency department reported in a statement Thursday.

The local branch of the Emergency Situations Ministry has yet to determine the volume of oil that has spilled out of the “Tungor” field into lake Odoptu.

Company emergency services will work 24 hours a day until the oil spill is completely removed, news agency TASS reported Andrei Bednyak, spokesperson for Rosneft subsidiary RN-Sakhalinmorneftegaz, as saying.

This is the third oil spill at the Rosneft subsidiary since late March.

Earlier in May an oil spill at the Mongi field in Sakhalin got into the Nelbuta river, local ecology group Sakhalin Environment Watch said in a press release. The oil spill occurred due to a pipeline failure, the organization said.

A previous oil spill at the Ehabi Vostochnoe oil field on March 31 in Sakhalin has yet to be properly cleaned up, Sakhalin Environment Watch reported in a separate press release. Around 200 liters of oil spilled out at the time, news website Lenta.ru cited RN-Sakhalinmorneftegaz as saying.
