Sergei Nikolayev / Vedomosti

The Sapsan high-speed train between Moscow and St. Petersburg will offer $12 tickets for sale starting from Jan. 19, Russian Railways said in a statement Tuesday.

The Sapsan service between the two cities began in 2009 and currently transports more than half the total amount of passengers on this route.

In 2015, Sapsan trains carried about 4 million passengers, up 16.4 percent from 2014, the Russian Railways statement said.
