New EU Sanctions to Come in Next Few Days, Finnish Minister Says

The European Union's latest sanctions against Russia are intended to come into force in the next few days, a Finnish minister said Wednesday.

"Their entry into force is intended to take place in the next few days, leaving time for an assessment of the [Ukraine] cease-fire agreement and the peace plan," Leena Toivakka, the Finnish Minister for European Affairs and Foreign Trade, said in a speech.

EU governments adopted the new sanctions on Monday but delayed enforcing them. (Reuters)

All Export Contracts With Asia Should Be in Rubles, Minister Says

Russia should conclude all new export contracts with Asia in rubles, First Deputy Prime Minister Igor Shuvalov was quoted as saying Wednesday by TASS news agency.

Shuvalov also said China had asked Russia to ease the law on foreign investment into its strategic sectors, the agency said. Shuvalov did not indicate whether Russia would approve the idea. (Reuters)
