World's Biggest Kholodets Set to Be Cooked in Moscow on Saturday

For MT

Foreigners have been invited to try the biggest kholodets in history this weekend as a local market attempts to set a world record.

Cooks will knock up 400 kilograms of the jellied meat dish, which has frightened weak-willed foreign visitors for centuries. Preparation will begin Friday at Moskvoretsky market and the kholodets will be ready at noon on Saturday and handed out to all visitors.

"Making kholodets is good because it is a very patriotic dish," Yulia Khandozhko, a spokeswoman for the market told The Moscow Times. "It may be strange for foreigners, but Russians love it. The event is an opportunity for foreigners in Moscow to get in touch with Russian traditions."

The final record-breaking kholodets dish will be 4.4 meters long, 1.2 meters wide and six centimeters deep, said organizers who will send records of their feat to the Guinness Book of World Records in Britain for verification.

"It is a way of getting more business and attracting people to the market," said Khandozhko.

It is not the first time the Russian capital has cooked a massive dish to get in the record books. In 2013 the world's biggest khinkal, the Georgian meat dumpling, was made in Moscow.
