This week is big on free concerts. If you are not sure what to do on Thursday night head to Tsvetnoi Central Market to listen to Clean Bandit, a band from Britain that plays a delightful blend of house and instrumental music. Their first single "Rather Be" was an instant hit and went on to receive a Grammy Award for the best dance recording of 2014. Funny fact: The band's cellist Grace and the keyboard player Jake met while they were both on a study abroad program in Moscow in the late 2000s.
Tsvetnoi Central Market. 15 Tsvetnoi Bulvar, Bldg. 1. Metro Tsvetnoi Bulvar. 495-737-7773. At 10 p.m.
Sept. 5 is City Day in Moscow, and unless you suffer from acute agoraphobia (in which case you should head out of town, pronto) there are plenty music events to choose from. The obvious choice is the free concert at Lubyanskaya Ploshchad, which will feature Aerosmith with its ever-energetic front man Steve Tyler and British singer John Newman, most famous for his "Love Me Again" hit. The music starts at 3 p.m. and goes non-stop until 10:30 p.m.
It's not clear how easy it will be to get into that concert, so Gorky Park is your fallback position. Its two stages will host English, Russian and French-singing indie-pop diva Jenia Lubich, SunSay — half of the recently reunited cult duo 5'nizza — and critically acclaimed Georgian indie rockers Mgzavrebi, as well as many more.
Bolshoye Massovoye Pole. Gorky Park. 9 Ulitsa Krymsky Val. Metro Park Kultury. 495-995-0020. At 7 p.m.
