Book Festival Returns to Moscow's Red Square

Last year events at the book fair on Red Square were packed, despite the poor weather. This year promises cloudless skies. Olga Cherednichenko

Attention all book lovers! This weekend you won't want to miss the second annual book festival on Red Square. With more than 100,000 titles from 400 different Russian publishers, there will be a book out there for everyone.

Held for the first time last year, the book festival was a great success that attracted 200,000 visitors. This year there will be even more activities and, the organizers hope, bigger numbers.

The festival will run from Friday through Monday. Attendees can expect opportunities to meet with authors, classes for children and adults, and of course, countless book stands covering the vast expanse of Red Square. In between perusing book stalls, you can catch a rock version of "Crime and Punishment" and a musical production of "Eugene Onegin" on a stage built especially for the event.

What if you don't speak or read Russian? Don't let that deter you. The festival will have interpreters for many of the classes and offer plenty of books in English.

The festival finale on Mon. June 6 will celebrate Pushkin's birthday. What better way to start the week than a bookfest on Red Square?

Red Square. Metro Ploshchad Revolyutsii. bookfestival.mibf.info. The festival will run from June 3 to 6, from 10 a.m. every day until 11 p.m. on Fri. and Sat. and until 10 p.m. on Sun. and Mon. Entrance to the festival is free.
