Annual Flower Festival Opens at Moscow's GUM

Enjoy nature indoors over the coming weeks and GUM blossoms with thousands of fragrant flowers. GUM department store

If avoiding the sweltering heat while still enjoying the beauty of nature seems like a daunting feat this summer, then look no further — GUM's annual Festival of Flowers opens today.

586,000 individual flowers from 28 different varieties have been grown especially for the festival. The floral display will not only feature on the facade of the building but also decorate the central walkways of the historic shopping mall facing Red Square.

It's the perfect excuse to window shop and catch some shade after walking around the center. After all, it's not every day Moscow's best known department store turns into a blossoming garden.

GUM Department Store. 3 Red Square, 3. Metro Ploshchad Revolyutsii. Festival runs through July 29. 10:00 am —11:00 pm. gum.ru
