The Russian government is considering limiting social benefits for in-debt Russians in a push to make them pay off outstanding loans, the Vedomosti newspaper reported Tuesday.
The move would affect citizens with outstanding fines, taxes, or alimony payments.
?€?This is a necessary measure,?€? said a member for the Committee on Constitutional Legislation Vladimir Ponevezhsky. "We have a huge amount of debt, and we need to do something about it.?€?
The Federal Bailiff Service took part in 70 million enforcement proceedings against 25-30 million people, the service's director Artur Parfenchikov said in an interview with radio station Vesti FM in March 2016.
