In conjunction with the exhibition "Canning Stock Route: Images of Aboriginal Australian Western Desert Art" now being shown at the ARTPLAY Design Center, two contemporary Australian films are being shown this Saturday, February 28. Both are being screened free of charge in English with Russian subtitles.
"Charlie's Country" is an award-winning 2013 Australian film directed by Rolf de Heer about Charlie, an Aboriginal man who tries to maintain traditional ways while feeling out of place in contemporary Australia. He leaves his home for the bush, but discovers that there is no longer a way to his past. Showing at 1.30 p.m.?

"Bran Nue Dae" is a musical comedy-drama directed by Rachel Perkins. Although it was made in 2009, it's a film version of the very popular 1990 stage musical Bran Nue Dae by Jimmy Chi. It is a coming-of-age film about an Aboriginal Australian teenager on a road trip in the late 1960s. It is being screened at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
