Moscow Receives Average Half Month's Snowfall in One Day

The Russian capital was hit with more than 30 percent of the average monthly snowfall in 24 hours, the state-run TASS news agency reported Tuesday, citing the Moscow Meteorological Bureau.

Some areas of the city received more than 50 percent of the monthly norm, an unidentified spokesperson for Moscow Meteorological Bureau told the TASS news agency.

Between 20 to 30 centimeters of snow fell in the capital on Monday and up to 35 centimeters covered the Moscow region, according to data from the Fobos weather monitoring center, cited by the RIA Novosti news agency.

A total of 7,500 snow removal vehicles are clearing Moscow's streets.

The capital has seen 58 centimeters of snowfall since the beginning of February, which exceeds the monthly norm by 160 percent, TASS reported.
