Russia's Black Sea resort of Sochi, the site of the 2014 Winter Olympics, plans to host a competition this Sunday to mark Valentine's Day — a contest for the longest kiss that organizers hope might set a national record, the Interfax news agency reported Thursday.
The contest will be held on a mountaintop, where oxygen is sparse, a spokespersons for Sochi's Gorki Gorod resort area was quoted as saying.
“In the evening, all couples in love who will be present will be invited to draw a lot of air into their lungs and engage in the longest kiss at a height of about 1,000 meters above sea level,” the spokesperson was quoted as saying.
At the end of the competition, couples will receive 500 heart-shaped balloons, which they can launch into the sky, the spokesperson said, Interfax reported. Should a record for the longest kiss be set, it may make it into the Russian Book of Records, the spokesperson was quoted as saying.
The resort will also host a Valentine's Day-themed alpine skiing contest in which participants compete for the title of “best mountain-skiing couple,” the spokesperson was quoted as saying.
