Award-winning cellist Boris Andrianov will be hosting a very special evening for his guests at the Central Museum of Culture tonight. Andrianov, who is regarded as one of Russia's best cellists, will be performing some favorite pieces on one of the world's rarest instruments dating back to the 18th century that has been lent especially for this performance by the Russian State Collection of Unique Instruments.
Guests tonight will be able to enjoy the work of Domenico Montagnana, a composer from the 18th century, Sergei Prokofiev and Johannes Brahms. Andrianov will be playing some of the compositions on an Italian cello built in 1740 and that is remarkable not only for its pristine condition but also for the wood it was made of and its resonance. This rare cello was owned by Mikhail Pavlovich, brother of Tsar Nicholas I, and joined the State collection in 1924.
Andrianov will be joined by pianist Ksenia Bashmet, who has performed at several prestigious music festivals and is the pupil of one of Russia's most famous pianists, Lev Naumov.
