Fire Kills Four in Ulyanovsk Prison

A fire broke out in a detention center in the Ulyanovsk region on Saturday, killing four and hospitalizing six, according to the website of the Federal Prison Service (FSIN).

The fire began at around 6 p.m. and thick smoke quickly spread into adjacent prison cells, resulting in the deaths of four prisoners.

Six people are undergoing medical treatment in hospitals in the city of Ulyanovsk. Two employees of the Federal Prison Service were injured while trying to assist detainees. One official remains in intensive care, according to the Federal Prison Service.

Victims and their families will receive financial compensation, said the official statement.
