Mother's letter:

Varvara is the 2nd child in the family. We started to notice that the child did not react to her name and environmental sounds 4 months after birth. Diagnosis was made after visit to doctor and examination — bilateral sensorineural hearing loss of the 4th degree, close to deafness. And the life of our family turned upside down. The decision about surgery – cochlear implantation ?€” was made. The dicision was hard to do as we understood that further service of cochlear implant system would be at our expenses. But child's health and her development as a person in society took the first place in our decision. At the age of 1,2 Varvara underwent cochlear implantation which was rather successful. One month later unforgettable event took place ?€“ first fitting of sound processor. Everything went well and a new stage started for our family ?€“ the most important one ?€“ process of rehabilitation. We need to teach our child how to hear and understand sounds, that is why constant rehabilitation courses are so important for us now (work with speech therapist, logopedist, defectologist) But it takes us a lot of time to collect sum of money necessary for one course as only my husband works in our family. And we need to have at least 3 courses per year!

It is very difficult to ask for help… you need to cross a lot of limits when you go to unknown people to ask for help. Unfortunately our state has no possibility to help financially in this question, but we all together are able to do it?€¦. Thanks a lot to those who take part in the fortune of our daughter!

Conclusion of speech therapist:

There is a positive trend in child's development. Expressive speech has been activated. Active vocabulary is constantly fulfilled. Varvara started to speak a lot, express her requests with the help of oral speech. She shows that she understands phrases said to her, can answer questions. In general understanding of directed speech is according to age level.

Recommended:

Intensive lessons for development of hearing performance and forming of oral speech with the help of speech therapists and logopedists, unassisted work at home with a set of rehabilitation materials
